Wake Up Shake Up
At Kings Rise Academy we believe it is important to improve children’s mental and physical health and well-being. 1 in 3 children are not getting the right amount of physical exercise a week and at Kings Rise we want to improve this, as it will help with a child’s physical and mental health.
Together with the children’s help we have made some exercise and dance videos to use in the classroom each day. These can also be done at home. We will always be adding to them to make it a fun and easy way to boost a healthy, active lifestyle.
Exercises to help you become better at PE.
Always make sure you warm up first. Jog on the spot for a minute.
If you want to improve your speed when running, set out a short distance using cones, or a jumper. Run from one side to the other, do this 10 times. Time yourself, try and beat your time each time you do it.
If you want to improve your flexibility, after you have warmed up, stretch down to your toes, with straight legs. Once you can touch your toes, bring your feet closer together. Hold it for at least 15 seconds each time.
To improve your catching skills, if you don't have a partner to work with, use a wall. Stand about 1 metre away from the wall. Throw the ball to the wall and catch it again. Don't worry if you can't do this straight away. Practice makes perfect.
To improve your jumping, standing jump is the best way to do it. Keep your feet together, swing your arms back and forth to help you gain momentum. Make sure you bend your knees on your take off and landing. Mark where you land with a toy, or pencil, then try and beat it.
